I personally found the day to be absolutely magical. Some
of it is hard to
put into words, but I felt like there were some seeds planted. I still see
those dolphins coming at me and then diving straight under me, then the one
stopping a few yards away and just looking at me with his sweet face. So
amazing.

"Me gustó estar platicando con la señora
mixteca que
vendía las pulseras. También me gustó la pizza
y el
convivio que tuvimos mientras comíamos pizza.
Una sugerencia sería planear actividades que involucre las
dos partes de border.
Una actividad podría ser presentarse uno al otro (los dos lados).
También podremos
traer una comida típica de nuestra tierra y compartirlo
con los demás (potluck;)"

"Thank you
for the opportunity to comment.
I enjoyed meeting the people that showed up. Especially, gentes de otro lado
de la linea.
A great chance to practice my limited Spanish. However, I always leave a little
unfulfilled due to the fact that the monstrosity of the fence is unmoved by
our presence. People that do show up on the U.S. side are overwhelminly nice
and probably do not need to be converted or prosletized. All the same,It is
probably nice for the our fellow human beings across the fence ( the so
called "aliens", "illegals" ) to know that we care
about them as fellow human beings...
I applaud you for trying to increase positive human interaction at the border.
The fence does not always have to be a place of division, death and despair."

"I
had a great time on the beach at the border. The experience
of communicating with friends with this "man-made" barrier
separating each-other was a strange and unusual feeling. But,
I knew all along, that I can easily cross the border (at a
port of entry) at any time I choose. Unfortunately, that was
not true for the people on the other side. Many of them expressed
that feeling to me and I don't have a solution for that problem.
In spite of that, the encounters were positive and the people
were happy to make this "limited" contact with us
on the USA side of the border. Some of the Mexicans were able
to squeeze through the narrow openings and fish and swim along
with us. The Border Patrol allowed this as long as they were
not too far from the fence. However, if they went more than
about 200 feet the jeep would come down and chase them back
in to Mexico. But, for us, on the USA
side, we could not "step" one foot on to the Mexican side without a
stern warning from the [US] Border Patrol.
Besides our group, there was a sprinkling of tourists visiting
this southern most point of the USA. In addition, there were some people on our
side of the border reuniting with family members for a short visit and when the
were finished and returning to the parking lot the Border Patrol stopped them
for a "thorough" check of their documents.
The food was great and I had a great time bodysurfing. I got too
much sun but I hope that we can do it again in the future."
